Mountainous Fjellgutusjøan

Catch the Big Fish in Wild and Wonderful Nature.

About 15 km north of Femund Canoe Camp, the lakes around Fjellgutusjøen offer a fantastic opportunity to combine fishing, paddling, and hiking in a landscape shaped by mountains and quiet waters. This is a trip for those who don’t mind carrying their canoe between lakes at different altitudes — and who want to fish in remote, rewarding waters surrounded by scenic beauty.

Start your journey at the bridge between Yttersjøen and Fjellgutusjøen, and explore this underrated paddling area. One of the region’s finest sandy beaches lies along Fjellgutusjøen, making it a perfect place to rest or camp. From there, you can portage up to Hammarsjøen, continue to Storsjøen and Litjsjøen, and even further down to Båthussjøen and Djupsjøen.

These small fishing lakes are surrounded by impressive peaks like HerbensenStorsjøberget, and Båthusberget, offering great hiking opportunities and stunning views. Many even smaller waters in the area, though not accessible by canoe, are reachable on foot and offer excellent fishing.

The lakes contain all inland fish species, and the area is especially known for large trout and grayling. At Femund Canoe Camp, we can offer advice on where and how to fish, and you can pick up both a fishing license and local fishing maps before heading out.

For a perfect addition to your adventure, make time for a hike to Gutulia National ParkNorway’s smallest national park. Centered around Lake Gutulisjøen, it’s known for its untouched forestpeaceful trails, and the historic Gutulisetra summer farm.
